  Mutton Curry in Kerala style

Mutton is  the most rich recipe since it costs very high every where.Mutton dishes are more tasty and unique and goes with any kind of cuisines.Mutton  with fried coconut/Varutharacha Mutton curry is many of us,we malayalis favourite. This makes a wonderful combo for any rice varieties, roties(chappathi n paratha, porotta),rice palappams etc.I had a chance to taste this delicious mutton curry from my friend's house and we(me n my husband) liked it even though it was too spicy. So the next week itself my hubby bought Mutton and i tried this recipe and came out well.So here is the recipe now this is for yours.

                                                     Marinating Mutton

2.After that Pressure cook  mutton with 1/2 cup water  for 3-4 whistles.

2.Make a good gravy by sauting Ginger - Garlic paste,Green chillies and Onion  in oil.Cook onion until it becomes soft and brown.

3.Add  tomato paste  to the sauted gravy. When the raw smell of tomato goes, add cooked mutton.Mix everything and add 1/2 Tsp Garam masala and add 1.5 cups of mutton stock(got while pressure cooking).Cover  and  cook for 5 minutes in medium flame.

4.In another pan,add  1 cup of grated coconut n fry it in low flame.Saute it nicely until the coconut  becomes brown in colour.Don't burn it with high flame. When it( fried coconut) cools grind the coconut in a mixie or food processor and make a good paste of it with lit water.

5.Add this coconut paste to the cooked mutton gravy and mix.Cook until oil floats at top and switch off the flame.Serve warm with bread varieties or rice.

  • If you want more hot spicy mutton, fry dry red chilies along with coconut and grind.
  • Add whole garam masala (1 small cinnamon stick,2 cardamom,5 cloves,5 pepper, etc)  and curry leaves while frying coconut and make a good paste out of it for more flavor.

Have a good day
