Mutton Curry in Kerala style
Mutton is the most rich recipe since it costs very high every where.Mutton dishes are more tasty and unique and goes with any kind of cuisines.Mutton with fried coconut/Varutharacha Mutton curry is many of us,we malayalis favourite.This makes a wonderful combo for any rice varieties,roties(chappathi n paratha,porotta),rice palappams etc.I had a chance to taste this delicious mutton curry from my friend's house and we(me n my husband) liked it even though it was too spicy.So the next week itself my hubby bought Mutton and i tried this recipe and came out well.So here is the recipe now this is for yours.
Ingredients
- Mutton - 1 kg
- Onion - 2
- Tomato - 1 big
- Ginger - Garlic paste - 1 Tb sp
- Green chillies - 2
- Meat Masala - 2 Tb sp
- Chilli powder - 1 Ts sp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Grated coconut - 1 cup
- Garam masala - 1/2 Tsp
- Salt - to taste
Method
1.Marinate mutton pieces with all masalas,ginger- garlic paste and salt.Keep it in refrigerator for 30 minutes.

2.After that Pressure cook mutton with 1/2 cup water for 3-4 whistles.
2.Make a good gravy by sauting Ginger - Garlic paste,Green chillies and Onion in oil.Cook onion until it becomes soft and brown.
3.Add tomato paste to the sauted gravy.When the raw smell of tomato goes,add cooked mutton.Mix everything and add 1/2 Tsp Garam masala and add 1.5 cups of mutton stock(got while pressure cooking).Cover and cook for 5 minutes in medium flame.
4.In another pan,add 1 cup of grated coconut n fry it in low flame.Saute it nicely until the coconut becomes brown in colour.Don't burn it with high flame.When it( fried coconut) cools grind the coconut in a mixie or food processor and make a good paste of it with lit water.
5.Add this coconut paste to the cooked mutton gravy and mix.Cook until oil floats at top and switch off the flame.Serve warm with bread varieties or rice.
Note
- If you want more hot spicy mutton,fry dry red chilies along with coconut and grind.
- Add whole garam masala (1 small cinnamon stick,2 cardamom,5 cloves,5 pepper,etc) and curry leaves while frying coconut and make a good paste out of it for more flavor.
