Prawns,what ever the dish i simply loves it and my husband as well.Today i have prepared Konju theeyal for lunch and i'm sharing with you that recipe.
Konju Theeyal
Ingredients needed
1.Prawns(Konju,Chemeen)- 1/2 Kg
2.Shallots - 1/4 cup
3.Curry leaves - a few
4.Ginger chopped - 1 small piece
5.Turmeric powder -1/2 Tsp
6.Chilli powder - 1/2 Tsp
7.Coriander powder - 1 Tsp
8.Tamarind water of - 1 lemon sized
9.Salt - to taste
10.Oil - as needed
For Coconut paste
1.Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
2.Dried Red Chilli - 1 or 2
3.Curry leaves - a few
For seasoning
1.Oil - 1 Tb sp
2.Mustard - 1/2 tsp
3.Shallots chopped - 1 Tb sp
4.Dry red chilly - 1
5.Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Method
- Clean Prawns neatly and cut it into 2 pieces if its big.
- In a pan with medium flame,add grated coconut,red chilly and curry leaves.Fry this until the coconut turns brown.Switch off the flame and allow to cool.After cooling,grind this and makes a paste with lit water.
- Cut and chop shallots and ginger.
- In a pan,add oil,then shallots n ginger.when it cooks,add the turmeric powder,coriander powder and chilli powder and fry in low flame.When the oil becomes clear,add the coconut paste along with 1/2 cup water.Add tamarind water at this time.Adjust the water level of the gravy accordingly(tamarind water n plain water) and keep this in high flame.
- When it starts boiling,add cleaned prawns to the gravy,keep the flame to medium and cover it with a lid and cook.
- Cook it for 20- 30 minutes.After cooking,if the gravy is not thick open the lid and cook in low flame for 10 minutes.
- switch off the flame and add the seasoning/tempering
- Serve warm with plain rice.
Tips
1.you can also use tomatoes for getting more tangy taste
2.Shallots gives more taste to the curry.
3.If you need more hot n spicy gravy add 2 green chillies.I have used very hot chilly powder.thats y i omit g chilly.
